It should come as no surprise that I'm a Dragon Ball fan, so the first one I remembered drawing for myself was a straight-up DBZ character: a Fusion of Goku and Gohan (hence the net-handle). Imagine Vegetto, but dressed in Great Saiyaman colors.
After that, I really got into sprite comics. For self-insertions in my own A Ninja in 20XX (which was moderately successful), I used much the same: A dude in X-style armor, green-black-and-white, with spiky DBZ hair.
These days, most people know me from Twisted Kaiju Theater, wherein I am depicted as a Great Mazinger SD with -- what else? -- spiky DBZ hair. When Shin asked if I had a preference, I was experiencing a revival of interest in Go Nagai's works, so I casually said: "Gimme something Mazinger."
Muddying the water further, my fursona in Conrad's writing is a tanuki.
Oy vey.
This calls for some brainstorming...

Just think of your plain self, then think of a unique ability/weapon and combine the two!
