Considering I'm not a fan of the chitchat-y nerd-type characters (like Mayuri and Szayel), I sure leapt right into that archetype with this fella.

A special note for Akon fans: Don't jump on me for using the 3rd seat. I've yet to see anything official about Akon's rank, let alone confirmation that he's a zanpakuto-wielding Shinigami and not just an ordinary scientist of the Research Institute.

Name: Shūgetsu Heizō [秋月平蔵]

Rank:12th Division, 3rd Seat

History: A project leader at the Research Institute, Heizō's lack of scruples are rivaled only by Captain Kurotsuchi. Heizō achieved his rank through a policy of backstabbing and subversive dealings, but his rapid ascent was stymied by Nemu, who holds the 2nd Seat by sole virtue of being the Captain's 'daughter'. Paranoid, he keeps a close eye on those below him and takes special note of Saburo's activities.

Heizō's own research into Hollows has benefitted no small amount by loosing enslaved specimens on unsuspecting mortals and Pluses. Coniving and petty, he is physically weak and prefers to let his pets fight for him. His swordsmanship is also poor, but Heizō picks up the slack with his devious inventions.

Zanpakuto: In its sealed state, Ibaragaki [茨餓鬼] (Thorn Ghoul) is a narrow-bladed dagger with a Western-style crosspiece, usually hidden inside his robes. With the release command of "Notakure!" [のたくれ] ("Writhe!"), Ibaragaki's blade morphs into a thorned tendril that is used like a whip. The thorns are coated with a drug that makes one receptive to Heizō's commands, so leaving a collar around his target makes them his permanent slave, even when Ibaragaki is sealed again.
